http://wave.google.com/help/wave/closed.html

Well, a couple of days ago I watched the demo video and was simply impressed by what they've presented. It also has given me more reason to better my proficiency with Java.

I think that once Google Wave is released it will become really successful.

I still haven't received my invitation to Wave (I probably will never get it).

What are your opinions on this project, which was started by the same people that started Google Maps.

I guess Java isn't such a "piece of turd" after all!

I'm pretty interested in Google Wave, too. But what exactly can/does it do?

It's Google's attempt to revolutionize communication and collaboration.

- Better organized email.
- Better organized collaboration.
- File sharing.
- Better instant messaging.
- Pretty much an all in one communication/collaboration suite.

One thing I thought was pretty cool was the on-the-fly language translations. For instance, you chat to a french person in english and he receives it in his language and vice verca.

With IM, they also send character-by-character so that you can see what the other person is trying to say as he types (which speeds up conversations). Of course, you can disable this if you don't want someone to see what you're typing until you're actually finished.

Emails remind me of the structure of threads in forums.

I can't explain it well, but if you watch the demo you'll see what its all about.

Note the missing "want."

Pretty interesting, I was waiting for this for a month or so.

Just got an invitation today from someone on this thread (can't remember from the top of my head who exactly): http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/showtopic132745.htm

If you want one just go to the thread and someone is offering invites, you just need to PM him the email you wish him to send the invite to.

I've asked some opinions about Wave at the Java channel of irc.freenode.net and they think that it sucks. People will probably use it mostly for homework. Smiley

Google Wave doesn't run on Java.  They use the Google Web Toolkit which converts a Java application written using the GWT libraries into a Javascript and HTML based application.

I have a Google Wave account: hachque@googlewave.com
